Get to know Asbury Youth Staff

Kyle Chickvara grew up in Kennesaw, Georgia and first felt the call to ministry in his time at Mississippi State University (where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications). He has spent the past several years exploring that calling at a few different churches in Mississippi, most recently First United Methodist Church in West Point. Kyle loves to read, run, hike, camp and spend time with his wife, Rachel. He has seen The Office over 15 times and his favorite movies are The Lord of the Rings and The Dark Knight.
Laura Provence grew up in Brentwood, Tennessee and began her ministry calling by interning at Brentwood United Methodist Church. She went on to obtain her Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies (plus a minor in Business Administration) at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She is also a graduate resident from the Center for Youth Ministry Training program and is working towards her Master of Arts in Youth Ministry through Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Laura loves to read, write, cycle, cook and binge watch new TV shows.
Angie Gongwer is the Director of Family Ministry. She graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. For 12 years, she dutifully worked in the healthcare industry. But things changed after she had two children. “I loved being a mom and God called me to children’s ministry,” she says. “I’m passionate about the faith development of families. Laying a foundation for discipleship is imperative to creating a faith that lasts.” At home, Angie is hard at work laying that foundation with her two teenagers, Reid and Riley. “It’s a privilege to do God’s work here at Asbury,” she says. “It’s more than a job; it’s family.”
Kerrie Cheshire is her name, organization is her game. Kerrie tirelessly keeps the staff and parents organized when it comes to children and youth activities. Kerrie and her family have attended Asbury for the last several years and she was thrilled to join the staff as Family Ministry Assistant in 2021. Her two children, Melody and Cameron, are also honorary staff members, helping mom with Wednesdays or taste-testing shave ice! Email Kerrie with questions. Need a last-minute registration?
