Urban Ministry

Serving B'ham's West End

Urban Ministry is a faith-based nonprofit focused on working with the residents of West End to build a thriving community. As an urban mission of the United Methodist Church, they work closely with sister organization, Community Church Without Walls, to extend compassion and opportunities for wholeness to everyone in the West End community. They do this by listening to the community, engaging their gifts and strengths, and building programs that affirm their dignity as children of God.

Area kids are headed back to school! So for the August Mission of the Month, we’re supporting West End families through Urban Ministry’s after-school program WE Learn. There are three ways you can help:

1. Purchase art and craft supplies for WE Learn‘s classrooms – list coming soon!

2. Mark your calendar for a neighborhood block party at Urban Ministry on Saturday, August 13 from 3-6:00 p.m. (1229 Cotton Avenue SW, Birmingham, AL 35211). Asbury Sunday school classes are providing the food. You are invited to come fellowship with families and learn more about WE Learn!

3. Asbury sends volunteers to WE Learn to tutor and mentor kids after school. The program resumes in late August and you can carpool with members of our group on Tuesdays from 2-5:30 p.m.
