As a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, our membership vows give us an outline for our common work of Christian Discipleship. Within the United Methodist Church, each member makes a covenant to:
1. Renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of the world, and repent of your sins;
2. Accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression;
3. Confess Jesus Christ as Savior, putting your whole trust in His grace, and promise to serve him as your Lord;
4. Remain faithful members of Christ’s holy church and serve as Christ’s representative in the world;
5. Be loyal to Christ through the United Methodist Church and do all in your power to strengthen its ministries;
6. Faithfully participate in the church’s ministries with your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness; and
7. Receive and profess the Christian faith as contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.
No matter if you are a new member or have been here since 1986, we invite you to find a place to worship, serve, and grow with your church family. Asbury Engage is a great way to learn more about Asbury, ways to get engaged and involved, and help welcome new members to our church family. Asbury Engage takes place after 11:00am worship in Room 121 and includes a complementary lunch. And, if you should need it, childcare is available.
In November, 2021, the Church Council of Asbury United Methodist Church approved the creation of a twelve-person Discernment Team comprised of representatives from the four committees required by the Book of Discipline (Church Council, Trustees, Finance, and Staff-Parish Relations), clergy, and four at-large members, to help guide our congregation through a period of exploration and information gathering. Through prayerful conversations, listening sessions, and surveys, we hope to discern who we are as a church body, who we hope to be in relation to the United Methodist Church, and how we move forward in the current context of our denomination.
