Tornado Buckets

Little things, big impact.

Senior Serve Day: January 10, 2024 - Tornado Buckets
Prepping Tornado Bucket Supplies for Missions

It’s not a question of whether a tornado will strike.

It’s when. Especially in the springtime. That’s why Asbury partners with the United Methodist Disaster Warehouse in Decatur, AL to assemble torndado buckets every January. Each 5-gallon lidded bucket contains a hammer and nails, flashlights, trash bags, toilet paper, gloves, toiletries and other emergency items. We truck the filled buckets to Decatur for storage and then warehouse volunteers deploy the buckets to families as soon as possible.

This year, the warehouse has requested fewer buckets than in previous years. Therefore, we’re not packing buckets as a church-wide missions project. Instead, adults 60 and better are invited to a Senior Serve Day, filling 150 buckets in a low-impact way, on Wednesday, Jan. 10 from 10-11:45 a.m. in Room 144.

If you wish to pack a Tornado Bucket with your family or small group, download the complete supply list here. Please return filled buckets to Room 140 by January 31.
