Modern – Sermon on the Mount: Hypocrites & Accolades | Rev. Michael Bowman

Scripture Reference: Matthew 6:9-15, Matthew 7:7-11 (NRSV)

“Pray, then, in this way:

Our Father in heaven,
may your name be revered as holy.
10     May your kingdom come.
    May your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11     Give us today our daily bread.
12     And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13     And do not bring us to the time of trial,
but rescue us from the evil one.

14 “For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. Is there anyone among you who, if your child asked for bread, would give a stone? 10 Or if the child asked for a fish, would give a snake? 11 If you, then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
