Rise Against Hunger

Hunger doesn't have to exist.

Adults, students and kids are packing 30,024 shelf-stable meals that can be sent worldwide.
This intergenerational event is one of Asbury's favorites! All hands are needed!
For every 1,000 meals packed, the Rise Against Hunger team lets a volunteer bang the gong to update the progress.

Rise Against Hunger is growing a global movement to end hunger by empowering communities, nourishing lives, and responding to emergencies. Every December, Asbury partners with Rise Against Hunger to pack thousands of shelf-stable meals. (It only takes a few hours!) They can be sent anywhere in the world to feed hungry men, women, and children living in poverty.

Missions Coordinator Brooke Jackson has seen hunger–but also empowered communities–firsthand when she served as a missionary in war-torn, impoverished South Sudan. In 2022, through Brooke’s efforts, a $19,000 donation Asbury’s Mission in Action went to Hope for South Sudan: a residential school and orphanage as well as the site of a farming sustainability project in Torit. To hear more about Brooke’s time in Sudan, check out her interview in the Asbury B’ham Podcast.

As for the 50,112 meals Asbury packed in 2022, 1,080 meals fed people in the Philippines through Convoy of Hope. And, 49,248 meals fed people in war-torn Ukraine through Salesian Missions.

Ready to Rise again with us in 2023? We’re packing another 50,000+ shelf-stable meals on Sunday, Dec. 10 from 2-4:00 p.m.
