Asbury is pleased to offer music lessons in voice, piano, and guitar for children, teens, and adults. Each semester consists of 15, 30-minute private lessons ($25 per lesson), taught at Asbury United Methodist Church. The cost for a full semester is $375. At the end of each semester, students have the opportunity to participate in a conservatory recital.
Nancy is the Music Director at Asbury. She leads the chancel and handbell choirs and also serves as the church organist in Traditional Worship. Nancy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music (Organ) from Birmingham-Southern College, Master of Music (Vocal Performance) from University of Montevallo.
John holds piano degrees from The University of Alabama and Birmingham Southern College and has been teaching piano for nearly 40 years to adults, teens and kids as young as age six.
Phillip plays the piano, clarinet and bassoon, but his passion is guitar. He’s self taught but has been playing for 50 years and has taught more than 30 students–as young as age 12. Phillip plays in the orchestra in Traditional Worship and also sings in the Chancel Choir.
Parents are encouraged to accompany students to and from their music lesson. Parents may sit outside the room or in lessons but are asked to not interfere with the ongoing lesson.
It is the student’s (or parent’s) responsibility to notify the teacher in advance if a music lesson is to be missed for any reason. The director or church office cannot be responsible for relaying messages regarding lesson cancellations to instructors. If you need to miss a lesson, please give your instructor as much notice as possible. Your teacher will work with you to schedule a make-up lesson, provided they are given sufficient notice of your absence. Unexcused absences or absences that occur when the teacher receives no notification will not be rescheduled.
Registration for a semester is a 15-week commitment for the student. In the event that a student/parent wishes to discontinue instruction, a 30-day notice is required. This notice should be given to the conservatory director in writing. The student/parent will be responsible for lessons that occur within 30 days from the date notice is given.
Ready to get started? Please get in touch via the form below. After we receive your information, Conservatory Director Nancy Beard will contact you to set up a lesson time based on your schedule and your instructor’s availability.
