That word, together, is important to us. We believe following Jesus is not a solitary act, but one that’s done in community. We recognize that our church is full of people from different backgrounds, upbringings, and thought. Though we are not perfect, Asbury UMC is a church made up of loving, generous, and kind people just like you.
We’re fostering unique disciples who embody the way of Jesus, together, as they worship, serve, and grow. In the context of a small group (5-15 members), this is done by way of connection, curiosity, and communion. Our small groups are small communities of individuals who know one another and provide the environment in which one can be their true self. As the community becomes established, it becomes a safe place for our curiosity. This group is a place where we can ask questions of God, the Bible, and ourselves. Through such questions, we discover ourselves being opened to the work of the Spirit in our lives. As this happens, we begin to walk in the way of Jesus, which is the way of communion: a rhythm of being broken and blessed.
The groups listed below – some are for men, some are for women, some are in Chelsea, some are in Hoover – are just starting. Depending on the group, the journey lasts anywhere from 6 to 9 months and meets weekly, biweekly, a few weeks in a row and then a week off, etc.
You’ll officially meet your groups on Sunday, Feb. 8 here at Asbury at a luncheon after worship. Then, you’ll begin meeting at the locations listed below.
