Connection, Curiosity, Communion

Community Groups

Asbury seeks to embody the way of Jesus, together, as we worship, serve, and grow.

That word, together, is important to us. We believe following Jesus is not a solitary act, but one that’s done in community. We recognize that our church is full of people from different backgrounds, upbringings, and thought. Though we are not perfect, Asbury UMC is a church made up of loving, generous, and kind people just like you.

The hope of our small groups is the same as our hope as a church.

We want to foster unique disciples who embody the way of Jesus, together, as they worship, serve, and grow. In the context of a small group (5-15 members), we think this can be done by way of connection, curiosity, and communion. Our small groups are meant to be small communities of individuals who know one another and provide the environment in which one can be their true self. As the community becomes established, it becomes a safe place for our curiosity. This group is a place where we can ask questions of God, the Bible, and ourselves. Through such questions, we discover ourselves being opened to the work of the Spirit in our lives. As this happens, we begin to walk in the way of Jesus, which is the way of communion: a rhythm of being broken and blessed.

Sound cool?

We’ve got nearly a dozen groups beginning this September. Some are for men, some are for women, some are in Chelsea, some are in Hoover. Depending on how your small group chooses to schedule your time together, your journey will last anywhere from 6 to 9 months. You can meet as often as you want: weekly, biweekly, a few weeks in a row and then a week off, etc. That’s your group’s decision.

Now, let’s find your people!

Browse the list of groups below. Our groups officially met for the first time on Sept. 14 but it’s not too late to get involved with a group below if you’re just hearing about this. Email us!
